Height and Depth
Let’s look a little more at the last part of our story.
Genesis 3:22 (After the Fall)
‘And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil.’
We were never meant to know evil. Only God was meant to know about the effects of both good and evil, all we were intended to know was good.
Almost everything that happens before the fall was good, the only thing that wasn’t good was for man to be alone, and even then God was the one who observed this. Adam was only aware of seeing things as good.
Now after the fall, humanity is aware that evil exists. We recognise it, accuse it, and judge it. But my feeling is that we are not and never were qualified or created to do so. Our job is not to bring condemnation, (be it towards others or ourselves) it was only ever to love and be loved.
Give Love and Accept it. Jesus confirmed that this is the most important thing we need to do, when He asks us to love our God, our neighbour and ourselves.
One more thing that came to me while I have been pondering this story, was this:
‘Don’t put a limit on God’s love.’
Adam and Eve put their own limit on how God loved them. They hid, they judged themselves unworthy of even being seen. How often do we do this to ourselves?
As I say, we were never meant to hold the postition of judge. Here is another part of scripture to take a look at, reflect on, and rest in.
God’s love is meteoric,
his loyalty astronomic,
His purpose titanic,
his verdicts oceanic.
Yet in his largeness
nothing gets lost;
Not a man, not a mouse,
slips through the cracks.
Psalm 36:5-6 (The Message)
